CANARA BANK has been a pioneer in initiating and implementing multifaceted and innovative programmes aimed at development of people from the lower strata of the society. The Bank has been playing a pivotal role and trying to bring about a socio-economic transformation in the society, particularly in rural areas.

 

The Bank, in its endeavour to promote Rural Development has set up an exclusive trust in the name of Canara Bank Platinum Jubilee Rural Development Trust during 1982. The Trust was renamed as Canara Bank Centenary Rural Development Trust (CBCRD TRUST) in the Centenary year 2006. The Trust assists 40 Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs), 5 CB Institute of Information Technology (CBIITs) ,3 Artisan Training Centres (CBIAs) and 4 Mobile Sales Vans (MSVs) spread across the nation. It is governed by Board of Trustees.

 

In Promotion of Self Employment and Sustainable Livelihood

 

 CBCRD Trust assists 48 Self Employment Training Institutes with a focused approach to:

  • Identify, Orient, Motivate, Train and Assist the unemployed youth to take up self-employment ventures for sustainable livelihood.
  • Take up research and development activities in Entrepreneurship and Rural Development.
  • Training the rural/urban poor youth in various skill trades for sustainable income generation.
  • Counselling and project consultancy.

 

The network of training institutes are as follows:

 

Five Information Technology Training Institutes have been established at Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Alleppey, Kolkata and Lucknow to make under privileged youth Tech-Savvy thus bridging the digital divide.

 

Three Artisans Training Institutes situated at Jogaradoddi near Bangalore, Karkala near Mangalore and Karaikudi near Madurai are working towards developing and promoting traditional arts and crafts.

 

 

MOBILE SALES VAN (Nammura Santhe)

 

“A PIONEERING EFFORT FOR PROVIODING MOBILE MARKETING PLATFORM FOR POOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS”

 

Canara Bank, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives has sponsored a Retail Mobile Marketing Van for Display cum Sale of self-made articles and House hold products, made by Self - Help Groups, Small Women Entrepreneurs, Artisans, Self Employed women etc.

 

This van is custom built high tech, solar powered, equipped with computerized billing, swiping machine for credit/debit card acceptance. This marketing van will be stationed in important locations of Bangalore to enable the citizens of the city to see and purchase the products manufactured by artisans and other underprivileged women entrepreneurs. This Mobile Van thus provides a platform for marketing of products in the entire city instead of being restricted to one area/locality.

 

This is a hand holding effort by Canara Bank in support of Women entrepreneurs, SHG’s and SHG members etc.

 

The mobile sales van has been provided in 4 centers viz, Bangalore(Karnataka), Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) , Pudupudur (Tamilnadu) and Thrissur (Kerala).
