Expatriate, Migrant and International Student Banking – Australia

 

  • Major Australian Banks like ANZ (Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd), National Australia Bank and Westpack Banking Corporation etc., are offering the services related to Expatriate, Migrant and International Student Banking (EMISB) services. The EMISB services can be utilized by our customers and also their dependents (preferably students) who may also become clients of our Bank by virtue of granting of Educational Loans at branches / opening of Savings and Deposit accounts
  • As per the EMISB services, NRI Students who are moving to Australia for studies can open bank accounts even before they arrive at their destination. However, no withdrawal can be made from such accounts until the NRI Students arrive/reach Australia and complete identity checks / KYC norms by visiting the concerned Australian Bank branch.
  • Apart from Australia, National Australia Bank is also offering above services in New Zealand and United Kingdom and ANZ Bank is offering in Australia and New Zealand.

Salient features of the EMISB services offered by various Australian Correspondent Banks are given hereunder. 

a) Westpac Banking Corporation

Westpac has a strong International and Migrant capability with presence in key locations such as London, New York, China, Singapore and Mumbai.The dedicated Migrant and Expat team of Westpac online and off-shore is assisting the customers from the world including UK, South Africa, Korea, UK, India, China, NZ,Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia.

  • Opening of new Westpac bank accounts through a simple online form
  • When account holder receives his account details, he can start transferring money to it before he arrive in Australia
  • Access Westpac’s vast network of banking specialists who can speak student’s local language, branches, ATMs (cash machines) as well as online, telephone and mobile banking.
  • Opening of account before arriving (unless the visitor from New Zealand) Australia provide flexibility, certainty and a greater peace of mind (establish every day bank accounts upto 12 months prior to their arrival in Australia leaving students with one less thing to worry about).
  • There are two types of accounts offered by Westpac

a) Everyday Bank Accounts (Westpac Choice) : It is a basic bank account for every day transactions. There are no monthly service fee for all full-time international students, regardless of minimum monthly deposits. Unlimited transactions across Westpac branches and over 2,800 ATMs(Cash machines). Value added services of Online, Telephone and Mobile banking are offered if registered. Access to a Debit MasterCard allows students to make purchases overseas, online and over the phone accessing their own money and there are no card nor application fees, subject to scheme conditions.

b) Savings Accounts (Westpac e-Saver) : It is a higher interest online savings account offering electronic access and a high interest rate which makes account holder’s money grow faster. There are no monthly service fee and attractive interest. There is no minimum balance and payment of three month bonus fixed interest. Students are provided with unlimited online and automated Telephone Banking transactions upon completion of identity check and receipt of completed / signed customer account opening form.

  • With Westpac, if the student wants to open a bank account in Australia for everyday transactions, Westpac will waive the current $5 monthly service fee for 12 months, after this period the $5 monthly service fee will be waived if the minimum deposits are to the value of $2,000 within the month. No monthly service fees on the everyday accounts for the first 12 months and it is exempted if there is a minimum USD 2,000 deposited each month.
  • Westpac is offering Multilingual contact centre which is open 24 hours a day for international customers and dedicated Migrant branches with all the contact details (Email id / Phone Number / BSB(Bank-State-Branch) Code ), in which dedicated Relationship Managers / Personal Bankers who have been trained on how to support and deal with migrant needs specifically.
  • Apart from the account related assistance, Westpac’s Migrant Centre is also offering a broad range of additional services like helping in arranging a Tax File Number, assisting with Driving Licence applications, Arranging preferential mobile Phone rates, Introducing them to services in the local area and providing of Medicare registration forms.
  • Students can open Bank accounts either by way of online (Global Westpac Website) or telephone or personal visit to Westpac Australia branches or sending the downloaded applications through Post to Australia Westpac Branch.

NAB is offering migrant, expatriate and international student banking services to help individuals moving to Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom to set up banking accounts before they arrive at their destination. The key highlights of the program are

  • Accounts can be opened up to 12 months prior to arrival
  • Fully online application (no upfront documentation required at the time of account-opening)
  • No minimum balance requirement
  • No application or account fees
  • Accounts opened in 2-5 working days
  • Ability to transfer monies (credits only) after account-opening
  • Bank/Debit cards ready on arrival in the host country
  • Dedicated Indian banker
  • Wide network of in-campus and near-campus branches and atms
