Shri R A Sankara Narayanan has taken over the charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Canara Bank w.e.f. 15.04.2019.

Sri R.A. Sankara Narayanan- is a post graduate in Public Administration with MBA in Finance,  CAIIB,  Post Graduate Diploma  in  Project  Management  (PGDPM), Post Graduate  Diploma   in   Financial   Management  (PGDFM),   Diploma  in   Treasury, Investment and Risk Management (DTIRM), DCP, BRM. He was the Managing Director and CEO of Vijaya Bank from September 2017.

He joined Bank of India as a Direct Recruit Officer in the year 1983 and headed various Branches,  Zones,   and  National   Banking   Groups   across   India   and   many other Departments in Corporate Office including Treasury, International Banking, Corporate Credit, Risk Management, Compliances, Retail, Marketing, Recovery, Human Resources.

Central Vigilance Commission

Central Vigilance Commission, as the apex integrity institution in the Country has been tasked with exercising superintendence over the vigilance administration and implementing Government Polices against Corruption. Further to give recognition to the reforms and good work done by the Organisations in the field of punitive, preventive and participative vigilance, Central Vigilance Commission has instituted ‘Vigilance Excellence Awards’. 

In this regard, for the year 2018, Commission has awarded Canara Bank with ‘Vigilance Excellence Award-Outstanding’ under Category – ‘Timely Completion of Disciplinary Proceedings’. The award has been presented in glittering function held on 31.10.2018 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi during ongoing ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ by the Hon'ble President of India.

On behalf of Canara Bank, the Award was received by Shri Anil Mittal, Chief Vigilance Officer and Shri Santanu Kumar Majumdar, General Manager, Delhi Circle on behalf of the MD & CEO of Canara Bank.




The Newly Constructed Block of Braille Resource Centre (BRC) was inaugurated on Saturday, 25th November, 2017 by Shri Rakesh Sharma, MD and CEO of Canara Bank. Braille Resource Centre is a wing of Canara Bank Relief and Welfare Society (CBR&WS), which is a service organization in Banashankari 2nd Stage, Bangalore. Canara Bank was instrumental in setting up this Society to serve the humanity way back in the year 1961. The Braille Resource Centre transcribes Text Books & Books of interest in Braille and donates them to visually challenged students throughout the State of Karnataka free of cost.
Visually challenged students generally opt out maths and science subjects when they come to 8th std. and choose Arts subjects, due to various reasons like paucity of maths teachers, non-availability of learning materials. To overcome this the Centre has started preparing Maths& Science books in Braille.
Sri Rakesh Sharma was the chief guest of the inaugural function organized by Braille Resource Centre. He released Maths& Science books in Braille which were handed over to Blind students. A DVD, which provides an insight into the activities of BRC, was also released by Sri Rakesh Sharma which was later played to the audience. Sri Sharma while addressing the gathering appreciated the yeoman service extended by the volunteers & motivated them to continue their service to the society.
Sri. Prakash P Mallya president of CBR&WS lauded the service of Braille Resource Centre and all the other activities of different wings of CBR&WS.
Sri. R.V Shastri, Vice-president, CBR&WS& Mrs. Naima from Tech-Mahindra Foundation (who are donors to the BRC under their CSR) also spoke on the occasion.
Sri.P Aravinda Rao, Hon. Secretary;Smt.PremaRatnakar, Joint Secretary; Sri. K.S.S Kamath, General Manager, CBR&WS; Dr. Prakash Chandrian, Medical Director, Sevakshetra Hospital;Governing Council Members and Representatives from other institutions working for the blind graced the occasion.


Canara Bank is always poised for Digital Revolution and offers scores of Digital Payment Products / Platforms to enhance customer convenience using digital channels by reducing cash transactions. Department of Financial Services, ministry of Finance, Government of India have propagating achieving of 25 billion Digital Transactions by 31.03.2018 and have allocated targets to all the Banks.

In line with the call given by the Government of India to improve Digital Transactions, today i.e, on 10.08.2017, our MD&CEO Shri. Rakesh Sharma has launched the following two new digital products in the presence of Smt. P.V. Bharathi, Executive Director, to pave way for increased channels / platforms towards this objective:

1.    BHARAT QR - opening new platform for payment settlement at Merchant Locations; and
2.    BHARAT BILL PAYMENT SYSTEM(BBPS) - an integrated bill payment system for Net Banking Customers


It is a mobile app wherein Merchant can accept payments as settlement for sale of goods/services.  Merchants enrolled by our Bank will be allotted with Quick Response (QR) code in tune with Bharat QR Code standards.  The solution is interoperable and customer of any Bank can make the payment using Mobile Banking Facility of their respective Bank.  Our Bank has enabled the facility in Mobile Banking for payment using BHARAT QR.  The solution rides on VISA / MasterCard/RuPay Cards issued to customers wherein card holders need not divulge card information to Merchant. It is safe, secure and reliable. Further, the facility is confined to domestic cards.   BHARAT QR supplements/replaces Point of Sale Machines.


It is an integrated Bill Payment system initiated by Reserve Bank of India and managed by National Payments Corporation of India. It offers interoperable and accessible bill payment services to Net Banking customers integrating network of agents. Presently we have enabled 144 Billers covering Telephone, Electricity, Water, Gas Supply, DTH, Mobile Networks and number of billers growing daily. Sooner all Billers will be enabled through BBPS. The solution is very cost effective, convenient, safe, secure and well regulated. Presently our Bank is allowing at zero cost to customers paying the bills. A robust Dispute Management / Grievance Redressal Mechanism is also embedded within the solution for customers.

Canara Bank, has announced launch of its first Digital Banking Branch “CANDI” to provide an end to end digital experience to the Gen-Next customers.

The 15th Annual General Meeting of the Bank was held on 20th of July 2017 at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium. Bengaluru. The Meeting was presided over by Bank’s  Chairman, Padmashri T N Manoharan in the presence of Bank’s  MD&CEO, Sri Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director Smt P V Bharathi, and Shareholder Directors. More than 500 Shareholders attended the Meeting.

Canara Bank bags Award of Excellence from the Ministry of Rural Development

Canara Bank was awarded Certificate of Excellence at the National RSETI Diwas held on 7the June 2017 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi for the exemplary leadership in promoting RSETIs ( Rural Self Employment Training Institute’s) for the year 2014-15 & 2015-16. Also, Canara Bank co-sponsored RUDSETI has also been awarded Certificate of Excellence in their respective category for both 2014-15 and 2015-16. In addition, the following awards have been bagged by Canara Bank RSETIs and Canara Bank sponsored Training Institutes in their respective categories:


  • Canara Bank RSETI, Davanagere has been adjudged the best RSETI for 2015-16.
  • Canara Bank Co-sponsored CB Deshpande RSETI, Haliyal has been adjudged the best RSETI for 2014-15.
  • RUDSET Vijayapura and RUDSET Ananthapur have bagged the best Training institutes for 2014-15 & 2015-16 respectively.
